Nancy Poll, the current NCCW Service Commission Chairman, has notified her diocese to end the Caps of Love collection on
April 11. As we have discussed at DCCW Board Meetings, Sheila Hopkins will be appointing a new Service Commission Chairman in the Fall and we can expect that a new project will be suggested at that time.
I believe we should stop collecting in our diocese by the end of May. I will collect the final bags of caps at our Board Meeting in August and continue to transport them to South Florida until they have all been donated. When you have stopped your collection, please let me know how many bags you have; I will most likely need to work out some extra trips to get as many as I can prior to August.
Please notify anyone you know has been collecting caps and advise them that our project will be ending shortly.
I plan to contact our local recycling company here in Tallahassee (Marpan) to find out if they pay for recycled plastic caps, or if they only take what has been collected. If they will pay for the caps, and it is comparable to what Valerie gets, it might make sense to "sell" them here and send the money to Valerie. I will let you know what I learn.
Thank you all for the enthusiasm with which you embraced this project to help children in need of a wheelchair. I hope to see most of you at DCCW convention on
April 25.
